Types of UK Student Visas
If you’re planning to study in the UK, the main visa option for international students is the Tier 4 (General) Student Visa, now referred to as the Student Route Visa under the UK’s Points-Based Immigration System.
- Student Route Visa (General): For students aged 16 and above who want to study at a UK higher education institution.
- Short-term Study Visa: For students attending English language courses that last between 6 to 11 months.
Most Pakistani students will apply for the Student Route Visa for full-time academic programs.
Documents Required for a UK Student Visa
You’ll need the following documents when applying for a UK Student Visa:
- Valid passport (with at least six months validity beyond your intended stay)
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a licensed UK university
- Visa application form (completed online)
- Visa application fee receipt (£363 for students applying from outside the UK)
- Proof of financial support (bank statements showing sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses)
- Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, or an accepted UKVI test)
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- Tuberculosis test results (if applicable)
- Recent passport-sized photos (according to UK visa photo requirements)

- Immigration Health Surcharge: £470 per year (for access to the National Health Service)
Tuition Fees:
- Tuition fees vary widely, ranging from £10,000 to £38,000 per year, depending on the course and institution.
Scholarships for Pakistani Students:
- Chevening Scholarships: Fully-funded UK government scholarships for master’s degree programs.
- Commonwealth Scholarships: Scholarships for students from Commonwealth countries like Pakistan to pursue postgraduate degrees in the UK.
- University-Specific Scholarships: Many UK universities offer merit-based and need-based scholarships to international students.
- External Scholarships: Scholarships offered by organizations such as British Council and Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
